Rachael Horsman
Rachael leads on Cambridge Mathematics curriculum projects and deputises for the Director. She contributes to research and writing on the Cambridge Mathematics Framework, leading in areas relating to concepts in geometry and calculus.
Rachael has been involved in maths education in a wide variety of roles and contexts both in the UK and abroad. During her thirteen years in the classroom, she was a head of department, assistant head teacher, advanced skills teacher and specialist leader of education. She mentored trainees, newly qualified teachers and subject leaders; lead professional development across schools and local authorities; and wrote and developed schemes of work and resources, including a number of published text and resource books. Rachael set up and led the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics Cambridge Maths Hub, and as an education consultant, worked in a variety of countries, including Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and Egypt, where she led on maths curriculum development, resource design, and teacher professional development. This included authoring teacher trainer-, teacher- and learner-facing resources.
In her current role, Rachael works closely with Cambridge Mathematics’ internal and external partners. Having gained an understanding of each individual project’s specific aims, objectives and challenges, she uses the Cambridge Maths Framework to design proposed solutions, and develops ways of successfully communicating this to the stakeholders concerned.
